Ash loves helmets, and it's even cuter when it's a derby helmet! We spend the weekend at our Western Regional tournament and Ash got to watch a game or two. He loves it! By the end of the night though, he was ready to go home.

I can't believe Summer is almost over.

Didn't it just seem like it was the beginning of the year? How can it be almost SEPTEMBER?! Heavens.

We are still as busy as ever though. I've taken on leading and coordinating the Parents Group at Ashur's School/Day Care. It's 6weeks - 6 years, and they have 2 toddler classrooms and 4 Primary rooms and starting this fall they will be doing Kindergarten. So far there are only about 2 dozen families participating, but I anticipate it growing as the school does. I arrange and organize weekend events. Zoo, museum, farmers markets, etc. I also just proposed a fruit/veggie delivery co-op. There's a company locally that delivers organic produce and has the option to co-op with 4 or more families. Thankfully, there's already been a good response and I think it will take off. It will be nice for the parents, and I feel good about encouraging the use of local organic produce, as well the school will get a fundraising kickback. That's always nice.

Starting September 12th we are doing Saturday swim lessons again. And we're also starting a Gymnastics class in October on the weekends! I also signed us up for the Tot Trekkers classes at the Zoo in October/November. We're gonna be busy.

That's good right? Because the more busy I am, the less I notice that Ashur is nearing his 2 year old birthday.

Today was great. What a beautiful morning for berry picking. We had a great time. I hope you all enjoy your weekend.

Featuring the highest per second cost on entertainment, ever.

This 45 second elephant ride cost us $8. Yeah. I know.

It was still fun. Ashur was saying 'WOW" the whole time, peppered with occasional trumpeting sounds. It was well worth the money.

Hope you're keeping cool

We're finding lots of ways to keep cool this summer. I hope everyone is having the same luck.

Can I use the money for that?
thinkin' hard

So, I am back at school working towards my Bachelors Degree at an online university, in an accelerated program. I was awarded a Pell Grant as well, I took some money in a Stafford Loan to bolster my need for books and other school related items.

In reading a little brochure for what you are supposed to use that money for (though you can really use it on anything) is "...school related or life related things that would make attending classes or your success in classes a more positive experience."

I think a massage and a pedicure would go a long way in making classes easier. Don't you? Har. Sadly though, I didn't think of that until just now... you know what I DID fantasize about using some of that money for?

Shoes and diapers for my child. How sad is that?

Swim lessons went.... well, swimmingly! He took to the water just like I knew he would. We worked on getting in and getting out of the pool, as well as floating on our back, kicking with our feet when floating on our front and arm circles! We really had a wonderful time.

I look forward to getting to hang out at the pool just down the street from our house soon, too.

I haven't talked to the instructor for Gymnastics yet, I'm hoping that's going well, but I'm sure I would have heard about it if it had not.

Uhm, what else is going on? This last week was hard working everything out on my own. I think I might move his crib down to the bedroom on the first floor so he can start sleeping in his own bed all the time. He's totally night weaned now, and really only wakes up around 4:30 and wants to snuggle. I don't mind the snuggling part, I mind the 4:30 part when I KNOW I have an hour left to sleep, and if he gets into bed with me he's like a 40 armed octopus and he cannot stop flopping around. However, if I don't pull him into bed with me, he fusses and whines and sobs for that hour. I'd much rather put up with the flopping around. We'll see!

We had our 18 month check-up last week as well. just right on par around the 50% for weight and head, just under for height, though you wouldn't know it to look at his feet!

Can't he just go barefoot?
OMG!

We're down to 1 pair of shoes that work. Who knew keeping a child under the age of 2 in shoes would be such trauma. If only I had the $200 I wanted to get the 4 pairs of Pedipeds that would get him through the next 6-8 months, I'd be a happy woman.

Whew...

You may have noticed if you visit our photo page that there have been a lot of new photos posted. We got a new camera last week and it's REALLY nice to have something that works well, takes great pictures and the fact that it's shiney and new can't hurt.

Expect lots more photos to be posted.
